Dogs have 101 excuses for not peeing in the rain.
I don't blame them. Not my favorite thing either. I mean, it's wet, cold, and windy out there.
We’re not that happy when they "do" pee in the rain either. Dogs come back in with dripping wet fur and leave muddy pawprints across the floor.
Peeing in the rain does take a mental shift. It's a shift that's not hard to make, I mean other animals do it. I've never seen a coyote in a raincoat.
It comes down to which would we rather clean off of the floor. Muddy paw prints or poop and pee?
I prefer to solve all problems so relieving outside is a non-issue for everyone.
Each dog is different. Each,
This is normal text - and this is bold text.
has their own reasons for not going outside so I'm not going to give a lot of tips here. The individualized phone sessions will give you that.
Here are a couple of things to get you started.
1. If your dog is having accidents in the house, he or she may be uncomfortable holding it long enough. Be sure your pooch does not have a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). Not holding it long enough, can be a symptom of other medical issues too. Pick up a sample tube at the pharmacy or your Vet.
Back home, you may be able to catch a sample in a ladle. Wait until you are sure she needs to go, take her outside, and hold the ladle under her to catch the pee.
Doing this at home is less stressful on your dog than at the vet, plus, you may be able to forgo the Vet visit and just drop the sample off.
2. Change your feelings about the rain. Have a happy-go-lucky attitude about going outside. If you have a sad expression, while asking your dog to go out, then of course your dog won’t want to go. Be happy, heck go outside with them and splash in puddles while you’re out there… then send me a pic. I want to see that. 😊
To stay on track do some training.
Three sessions will help figure out exactly why your dog is avoiding peeing in the rain and we’ll do real training by phone to change your pup's attitude from sad to happy.
